Creating a Pinterest Brand Vision Board

by | Shanty Town News

Developing an idea is the first step towards your unique brand identity. That’s why we recommend creating a Pinterest Brand Vision Board! This exercise brings out your subconscious vision for your brand. Think of it as an exploration of mood and style. Whether you realize it or not, you have something in mind. So, creating a vision board is a great way to see what comes out. It’s your permission to play around on Pinterest for an afternoon or evening. Our motto is: Like it? Pin it! We want you to enjoy the process, so don’t fret if you’re new to Pinterest—the below will guide you in finding your brand’s vision.

How to set up your Pinterest Brand Vision Board

These steps are for those working with us on a logo. However, you can skip steps 3 and 4.

  1. Sign up for a Pinterest account if you haven’t already.
  2. Create a board. This can be a private board if you’d prefer.
  3. Follow Shanty Town Design.
  4. Add us to the board so we can also pin ideas.
  5. Start pinning!

How to find what inspires you

Browse around and find things that resonate with how you see your brand. Search for visuals, quotes, photos, colors, and fonts you feel connected to. Spend some time searching for things that inspire you. If you’re not sure what to search, here’s a list of terms that you can start with.

  1. [Your Industry] Logos
  2. [Your Industry] Web Design
  3. Social Media templates
  4. [Your Industry] Color Palettes
  5. Fonts (serif, sans serif, script, handwritten) or Typefaces
  6. Quotes
  7. Photos

Let yourself wander around. Click images that you’re attracted to and search through similar imagery to get more inspiration. By using the above keywords and mixing them with some descriptive words, you should find what you’re looking for.

Here’s an example:

Business Background: I am a young entrepreneur whose company is Sunny Co. I am looking for a way to represent my brand in a happy, cheerful, and blissful way.

  2. Bright Color Palette

  4. Cheerful Social Media Templates
  5. Handwritten fonts
  6. Script Fonts

How we use the Pinterest Brand Vision Board in our designs

When you curate a personal Pinterest board, there will be trends. You may notice them yourself quickly. Sometimes, boards get a little chaotic and make it hard to see a common theme, which is okay. We’ll find the connections by paying attention to design style, overall feeling, color trends, and assets. For example, you might not realize there is always a varying shade of purple in everything you pin. Or we might notice you are more often pinning a certain style of star.

We’ll point out trends as possible things to incorporate in the brand or nod towards abstractly. Depending on the other pins, we might also not look at it objectively. Sometimes, we notice a consistent feeling in the board as a whole, which tells us that our work should convey that same feeling when viewed subjectively.

Depending on the connections we find, we may continue pinning relevant ideas to nail down the design style we feel you are going for. This is where the collaboration comes in. We’ll search through some additional design terms to pull out what we think you’re attracted to, such as a monoline logo or retro-style character.

If Pinterest is a little too cumbersome for you, you can also use Google to share those items with us via email!
